Norman has been with United First Parish Church for more than 35 years. Growing up in Western New York, he started piano lessons at the age of six. In high school, he began organ studies, played clarinet in the school band, accompanied the high school chorus, and sang in his church choir.
At the University of Rochester, he majored in English, but studied organ all four years at Eastman School of Music, and sang in his organ teacher’s choir, where he met his wife Rita. He has spent most of his life in the Boston area as organist and choir director. He is also library assistant at Social Law Library in Boston.
“While my parents listened to all types of music, they especially enjoyed the popular music of the forties and fifties. I felt drawn to classical music from a very early age, and came to love Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Charles Ives, as well as Bach and Handel. I am constantly learning new music, and try to challenge myself and the choir as performers, and the congregation as listeners.”

My name is Nan Moore, and I am the new incoming Director of Family Ministry. I have served in multiple facets of ministry for over 25 years. My ministerial journey began in 1996 as Director of Religious Education (DRE) serving multiple UU churches in the towns of Barnstable, Chatham, Cohasset, and my last director position was here at UFPC where I served for 7 years.
From 2008-2012 I was enrolled in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, which was both academic and experiential for those interested in becoming a skilled multi-faith chaplain. In 2012 I was hired as a Spiritual Care Coordinator, caring for hospice patients, pediatric palliative care patients, and their families. Part of my ministerial role for hospice was also providing celebration of life ceremonies, as well as memorials for staff and residents in nursing facilities around greater Boston.
In November 2017 I took a personal sabbatical from hospice and enrolled in a UU Spiritual Direction and Guidance certification program, which I completed in 2019 and currently have a private practice. Also in 2019 I received a commissioning ceremony in honor of becoming a UFPC Affiliated Lay Community Minister – this was one of the best days of my life!
As the incoming Director of Family Ministry, I have a grand opportunity to co-create with the Religious Education committee, bringing forth a new and relevant ministry in the 21stCentury. GET READY! It is a new day, a new time and a new experience calling us to engage and expand ourselves in fresh innovative ways - GET READY........it is here where we begin anew.
May heart-fullness be our guidance in 2022!
