Music Ministry Vision & Priorities

Music Ministry Vision Statement

In our music ministry, we seek to open our hearts, strengthen community, widen the circle of belonging, and enrich our spiritual journeys. Music gives voice to our values, deepening our connection to a Larger Reality and the interdependent web of life. We sing, listen to, create, and perform music together to build a shared life of welcome, engagement, and joy. Drawing from a rich diversity of musical styles, cultures, and theologies, we connect our congregation with the wider UU community, our Greater Quincy neighbors, and the call to justice in the world.

Music Ministry Priorities

  • Experience a breadth of music styles with varying theological content and cultural influences
  • Build comfort, belonging, and identity through shared musical repertoire and musical ritual
  • Foster congregational singing and develop singing skills and confidence among both the congregation and choir
  • Fully engage the congregation’s musical gifts, spaces, and resources
  • Shape a culture and practices of planning and collaboration around music that are inclusive, creative, and sustainable
  • Explore a shared leadership structure through a Music Ministry Team to do creative, democratic work in collaboration with the Music Director, Worship Committee, and interested congregants
  • Research and implement tools and technology that support our musical goals

UFPC Choir

The choir at United First Parish Church is a 15-20 member four-part group with a wide variety of styles, and a communal love for music. This year, as we have gone through a time of musical discernment, the UFPC choir has broadened its horizons in many ways, under the direction of acting music director Tony Winters. From moving pop ballads like Josh Groban’s “Thankful” and the Highwomen’s “Crowded Table”, to rousing spirituals and civil rights anthems like “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around”, and even showtunes like “Seize the Day” from “Newsies”, the choir’s repertoire continues to expand in exciting and often unexpected ways. The choir continues to add flavor, purpose and excitement to church services, performing about twice per month.

With much more excitement to come, we are always looking for new voices, no experience needed! If you are interested in singing with the UFPC choir, please contact acting music director Tony Winters at twinters@ufpc.org. We look forward to singing with you!
