The United First Parish Church Board of Governors is excited to announce a pilot “Share the Plate” program to run from February - December 2026.
What is Share the Plate at United First Parish Church?
On the second Sunday of each month, we will “Share the Plate” with an organization that aligns with our values. On these Sundays, half of the funds raised (other than those designated as fulfilling pledges), will go to the designated recipient organization and the other half will go to UFPC. Additionally, congregants can make donations to Share the Plate throughout the month by clicking the donate button and selecting “Share the Plate.” This will allow everyone to participate, even those who are not present on second Sundays.
Why Share the Plate?
Share the Plate (STP) programs have been around for decades and are used by many Unitarian Universalist congregations across the country. Congregations have found that STP programs created a broader sense of ownership of the Social Action giving process. They also provide an opportunity for congregants to learn about and make connections with new social justice organizations. STP programs are generally thought to increase the overall Sunday offering total – so there is little to no impact on the congregation’s operating budget.
How are STP Recipient Organizations Selected?
During our 2026 pilot year, a selection subcommittee consisting of the Minister, President, and Chair of the Social Justice Action Committee reviews proposals from:
Twice a year, the selection subcommittee presents to the Board a slate of recipients for approval. The subcommittee may recommend leaving a monthly collection unassigned so the minister can have the discretion to pick a recipient in real time to address pressing needs.
STP donations can be made throughout the month online by donating at the link below and selecting "Share the Plate."
